Whatever, it's all subjective anyway, there are as many different preferences as human beings.

I think Joe is my favorite Guitar God: although I think that Vai (and others)
are more technically proficient and others are better performers than Joe (having seen both Joe and Vai live), I think that he is overall the best and produces the best and most accessible instrumental guitar music by far

I love satriani. I mean Vai is good, technically, but satriani often has that factor that adds the emotion...

And I saw him in concert. Pretty cool.

Satriani taught Vai and Hammet. He's cheese at times, as any good classic. But he's Satriani.

Vai's biggest downfall is his ego and he reminds me a little too much of Yngwie Malmsteen in that he was more focused on the guitar than on the song. Satch is a whole different story, as his compositional skills are amazing, letting the guitar become part of the song rather than having the song become part of the guitar.

I haven't really kept up on Satch in years, but I'll remember him long after he's gone. Can't say that about Vai.

Satch is seriously back and never REALLY gone. So as Vai. Respect your opinion though.

Hi, I just found this group and couldn't ignore the thread, even though I see it's old. Satriani is excellent, I think he has one of the cleanest sounds around. He's very distinctive and you can pick his sound out of a crowd. He is fucking AMAZING. I do love a good guitarist and he's one of the best we have.

Joe's playing is more connected to the heart for me. He digs down and connects...Vai is technically superior and really has the wow factor, but I get frustrated when a player simply shows off his chops for the wow factor or dances around because he or she can't seem to mine the emotions.
